Why do we use fruits, vegetables, Twinkies and other food items to describe the idea of someone being [Race A] on the inside, [Race B] on the outside?
Overthinking It: Using Food As A Racial Metaphor

Because people are delicious.
In all seriousness, I always wondered this too. I used to get called “Oreo” by a couple family members when I’d visit St. Maarten when I was kid. I assumed it was because I’m mixed, and I didn’t understand the context until I was much older. At the time, I just thought it was cute, because who doesn’t love an Oreo cookie, ya know?
Shoot, I used to self-describe myself as “Chocolate Milk” when I was in elementary school. “‘Cause my mommie is chocolate and my daddy was milk…”. (I was fucking adorable, you guys.)
BUT! Obviously descriptions like that are incredibly problematic because it implies that there’s only one way to be [insert minority here] and if you don’t fit whatever stereotype, you’re a “fake”, or trying to be white, or self-hating, etc. And that sucks for everyone. ::sigh::

I just want to use my freedom of speech to tell everyone about a low-key college that not many people know about. In college, rape happens quite frequently when the dean of a school lets students with gang murder charges, sexual assault, assault, and any type of criminal background go to this school with a 100% acceptance rate, New Mexico Highlands University.
When too many criminals are put in one school just because they are so desperate for any type of income and/or a good sports team, the students’ safety are in danger. That is why the college denies it and covers it up. Crime statistics here are thought to be false. Schools that are 4th tier aka low income, low graduation rate, low GPA average, high drop out rate, and highest STD rate are so desperate for money because nobody wants to go there after all the stuff put in the news about the school that they are willing to let ANYONE in, as I previously said NMHU has a 100% acceptance rate for these reasons.
I have had friends who have been raped and assaulted here and I have personally been assaulted. The dean showed no sympathy and did nothing about it. Many girls ended up dropping out of this school and their half-completed education went to waste because nothing is getting done about it. Help spread the word!!!

This is awful. Please reblog to spread the word about this college that does illegal things to students when they try to expose them for covering up crime - the more outrage there is, the more likely it is that something will be done about it.

Senate has a secret book of rules →

usatoday:

The U.S. Senate has for years lived by a secret book of rules that governs everything from how many sheets of paper and potted plants each Senate office is allotted to when Senators can use taxpayer money to charter planes or boats. The document has never been available to the public — until now.

We have obtained and are making available the 380-page U.S. Senate Handbook, which describes itself as “a compilation of the policies and regulations governing office administration, equipment and services, security and financial management.”
